80s R&B, pop and falsetto singer El DeBarge has released Second Chance, his first album in 16 years. El is best known for the family group DeBarge which he was the lead singer. The group found great success in the 80s. El’s biggest solo hit song is “Rhythm of the Night”.
Second Chance was released November 30 by Geffen Records and is a reflection of DeBarge’s tumultuous past and his new found outlook on life. El was released from prison in October 2009 after serving two years for drug possession charges.
His first single from the album is a title track and was immediately successful on R&B radio. The single has been nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. The album has already received positive reviews from Entertainment Weekly and the Wall Street Journal.
Second Chance includes songs with Faith Evans, 50 Cent and Fabulous. El DeBarge teamed up with past co-producers Jimmy Jam and Babyface for Second Chance.
He has done surprise performances on the 2010 BET Awards and Soul Train Music Awards. Both performances were a crowd-pleaser.
Currently El is doing a small tour throughout the United States with R&B singer Fantasia.
